A wind farm support vessel has taken part in the rescue of a broken-down speedboat off north Wales.
Windcat 3 responded to an ‘all-ships’ broadcast from the coastguard after 15.40 on Sunday to help four people stranded following a day of fishing south-east of Innogy’s Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
The vessel went to the speedboat’s aid to prevent it drifting into the array area, according to Rhyl RNLI. A starter motor on the speedboat had seized and alternative efforts to get the engine running failed.
Windcat 3 towed the boat back towards Rhyl where it met the all-weather lifeboat about 10km north of the harbour.
The lifeboat took over the tow and brought the causalities aboard. The vessel was back at station at 6.30pm.
Rhyl lifeboat coxswain Martin Jones said: “The party were well-equipped with all the necessary safety equipment, but the range of the VHF radio was not very great. We are thankful to the skipper and crew of the wind farm supply vessel Windcat 3 for assisting to get the casualty away from danger.”
