Vineyard Wind has selected Sif to fabricate foundations for the 800MW Vineyard wind farm off Massachusetts on the US north-east coast.
The Dutch fabricator will deliver 84 monopiles under a “strict manufacturing schedule” to meet “seasonal restrictions” related to pile driving, the company said.
“Sif’s ability and confidence to meet this schedule was an important consideration in being selected by Vineyard Wind,” the company added.
Storage at its MV2 facility in Rotterdam and delivery by roll on-roll off vessels in 2020 and 2021 is included in the scope.
Chief executive Fred van Beers said: “For Sif this is an exciting milestone in our continuous development as leading monopile manufacturer.
“By being part of the supply chain for the first large-scale wind farm to be built in the USA, Sif takes an important step towards growth into new markets.”

Vineyard is being developed by a joint venture between Iberdrola-owned Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
The wind farm will feature 81 MHI Vestas V164-9.5MW turbines. Full commercial operations are expected in 2022.
