Heerema Marine Contractors has begun one of the most extensive lifetime extension programmes in the history of the heavy-lift vessel Thialf at the Calandkanaal in Rotterdam.
The company said the work will continue after the offshore season and will include a dedicated drydock period to give the vessel a renewed appearance.
The programme covers almost every part of the vessel, including steel and structural renewal, upgrades to electrical systems and replacement of main switchboards.
It also includes renewal of sewage and firefighting systems, refreshed accommodation areas and hospital facilities, and preparations for thrusters, cranes and DP systems to ensure long-term offshore performance.
Thialf is also preparing for a busy summer, with mobilisation due to begin next month.
Heerema described the effort as a major team achievement supporting future offshore operations.
