The Danish Energy Agency has granted HOFOR permission to develop the Aflandshage offshore wind farm in Oresund, Denmark.
Built around 10 km from Amager’s southern tip, the offshore wind farm will have a capacity of up to 286MW and consist of 26 turbines.
The location was chosen due to its distance from the coast, the Swedish territorial border, the nearby airport, busy shipping routes, Natura 2000 areas and primary bird migration routes across the Oresund.
The transformer station will be located on land at the Avedore plant.
The turbines will be able to supply up to 300,000 households with green electricity.
According to the current plan, Aflandshage wind farm will be in full operation in 2026.
“There is great political and public pressure to step up our green ambitions in the area of energy, not least in light of the energy crisis that is currently affecting the whole of Europe in the wake of the war in Ukraine,” said chairman of the board of HOFOR Susanne Juhl.
“It is clear that we also need to ensure more solid self-sufficiency in the energy field. I am proud that HOFOR, with Aflandshage Windmill Park, can help ensure that the metropolitan area can take the lead in the green transition.”
“In Copenhagen, we have set a number of ambitious goals to make the capital greener. We are working hard to become CO2 neutral as soon as possible and with the aim of becoming a climate-positive capital in 2035,” said Lord Mayor of Copenhagen Sophie Haestorp Andersen.
