Hyundai Heavy Industries has obtained international certification for its self-developed 500MW offshore substation, aiming to strengthen its position in the global offshore wind market.
The company said DNV has granted an International Design Verification Certificate for the model, confirming it meets international standards and technical requirements.
The 500MW substation has been designed in-house and features domestically sourced key equipment and materials, which Hyundai said establishes a stable supply chain and maximises cooperation with local suppliers.
Hyundai said the new model is a standardised design suited to large-scale offshore wind developments and will contribute to the expansion of South Korea’s domestic supply chain in line with national policy targets for renewables.
Won Kwang-sik, head of the company’s marine energy division, said: “With this certification, we plan to launch full-scale order-winning activities in the offshore wind power market.
“We will develop offshore substation models with various capacities and shapes to expand our product portfolio and strengthen our competitiveness.”
