Manchester company Granada Material Handling is to provide 10 davit cranes for Statoil’s 30MW Hywind offshore wind demo in Scotland.
Granada said each of the Python cranes is specifically designed for the Hywind project, which will feature five Siemens 6MW turbines of floating spar foundations.
The company has been contracted by Aibel, which Statoil is employing to carry out FEED and engineering and management assistance on the project.
Granada will design, supply, third party certify, deliver and commission the 10 units, two of which will be fitted to each of the five floating platforms.
It said each crane is approximately four metres in height, 5.3 metres in radius, and weighs 3000kgs.
The cranes have also been engineered to cope with larger than normal foundation motions resulting from the floating spar system.
Granada said the maximum lifting capacity of 2000kgs is needed to hoist the heavier serviceable components from the supply vessel to the laydown area of the transition piece platform.
Granada Material Handling director Mark Sidwell said: “The Hywind contract is not only great news for Granada but also for our UK-based supply chain.”
