Ramboll has been chosen to conduct Ilmatar Offshore’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) on offshore wind projects north of the Åland Islands, Finland.
Ilmatar Offshore selected Ramboll Finland as lead consultant for its EIA report on the Stormskär and Väderskär project areas north of Åland.
Seabed surveys carried out by Ilmatar Offshore were completed in autumn 2022.
Ramboll Finland will start work on the EIA report right at the beginning of the new year with the aim of completing the EIA report in autumn 2024.
Both are in the Norrhavet maritime area which have been specified in the Åland Maritime Spatial Plan as suitable for offshore wind power.
“We have been looking for a company with solid experience in marine infrastructure projects, energy projects and environmental impact assessments.
“Together with Ramboll, we intend to produce a thorough and comprehensive environmental impact assessment report which involves all the parties concerned and ensures that all studies and reports are carried out correctly right from the outset.
“We are very pleased with this new partnership,” said Stefan Husa, Head of Marine Spatial Planning at Ilmatar Offshore.
“Our environmental legislation is among the best and most stringent in the world.
“The EIA process also involves public participation, thus reinforcing the importance of democracy in environmental assessments.
“A rigorous environmental impact assessment can benefit from the local knowledge and experience of Åland residents, integrating it with scientific and impartial deliberation,” said Anna Häger, Regional Manager at Ilmatar Offshore.
