Investors have given the final go-ahead for construction of the 200MW Borkum West 2.2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
Around 20 shareholders from Germany and Switzerland approved the €800m build. Trianel, EWE and Fontavis are jointly supporting the project.
BW2.2 will feature 32 Senvion 6.3MW turbines on monopile foundations. Power will be exported through the existing first phase substation.
Construction in the water is due to kick off in spring 2018 with full operations scheduled before the end of 2019.
“The construction of a North Sea wind farm is still a technical and logistical challenge. With Borkum West 2.2 we are pooling our experience and minimizing risks during the construction phase,” said technical manager Irina Lucke.
