Penta-Ocean Construction and Japan Marine United Corp are to develop a multipurpose self-elevating jack-up platform to install offshore wind turbines of between 5MW and 6MW in Japanese waters.
Dutch company GustoMSC has supervised the basic design of the vessel, while Japan Marine will build the jack-up platform.
The vessel, a first of its kind in Japan, is scheduled for completion and delivery in September 2018.
The companies said the vessel is designed for the natural conditions and on-site characteristics in Japan and will be equipped with a fully-revolving crane with a maximum of 800 tons lifting capacity.
A dynamic positioning system will allow for the automatic positioning of the platform, enabling it to reduce the operational time to precisely position the hull and jack-up legs on the seabed, the companies said.
The legs will allow the platform to install components in water depths of up to 50 metres.
