Three Japanese companies have ordered a jack-up vessel with a 1600-tonne lifting capacity for work in the domestic offshore wind sector.
Penta-Ocean Construction, Kajima Corporation and Yorigami Maritime Construction said the vessel is designed for work with fixed foundations and turbines in the 10MW to 12MW capacity range.
The ship’s holding company will be established as a subsidiary of Penta-Ocean Construction and will be operated jointly by the three companies.
Basic design of the vessel will be undertaken by Dutch company GustoMSC, while PaxOcean Engineering in Singapore responsible for the overall construction.
Another Dutch company, Huisman, will supply the revolving crane.
Delivery is scheduled for September 2022, with operations due to start in March 2023, the three owners said.
They added that the total cost of the vessel will be ¥18.5bn (€154m).
The trio said that the vessel was needed given the growing momentum for offshore wind development in Japan.
