Subsea cable specialist JDR is planning a new European service centre in Newcastle upon Tyne to support anticipated growth in offshore installation activities.
The 4000-square-metre facility will be located on the River Tyne and include a workshop, warehouse and offices.
It will act as the central base for JDR’s UK and European service operations and also coordinate the company’s activities in the Middle East and Asia.
The centre will house 50 staff and will also be a base for the sales and marketing teams.
It is expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2017.
The company said the location was “strategically selected for its proximity to projects in the North Sea and Europe, JDR’s Hartlepool facility and the local supply chain”.
JDR chief financial officer Ivan Coyard said: “We expect our service contracts to increase significantly as we continue to build on our recent successes, delivering cables and umbilicals globally to the offshore energy industry.”
