JERA Nex BP is shuttering its US operation and will lay off US-based employees in the coming months, the developer has announced.
The developer referenced its decision to cancel the Beacon Wind project and said that “we cannot continue our investment in the market”.
“The US is a market with significant long-term potential for offshore wind, which we still believe can play a key role in the country’s energy transition. Unfortunately, in the present environment we see no viable path to the development of our Beacon wind project”, the company said in a statement.
JERA Nex BP will continue to hold onto the Beacon lease area off the coast of New England and “wait for a more favourable moment to resume project development”, the developer added.
“We’re incredibly proud of the role our talented and committed team has played in the development of offshore wind in the US and are disappointed by this outcome. We will support them in this difficult transition.”
