Nordic Yards is set to load out the topside for the 900MW DolWin Gamma offshore substation at its Warnemünde facility in Germany in mid-June.
The shipyard, which has built the platform on behalf of general contractor GE, said the topside will be installed in late summer and is expected to be fully operational in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The shipyard finalised the split jacket foundation last year and installed it at the construction site North of Borkum island, some 162km away from the Dorpen West onshore substation.
Dolwin gamma will serve as grid hub for the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 and 400MW Merkur offshore wind farms.
It is the fourth HVDC platform constructed by Nordic Yards and is the last for the offshore wind sector. This is because the shipyard will now focus on building cruise ships after being acquired by Hong Kong-based Genting Group in 2016.
