German ports operator Niedersachsen Ports has started construction of a new quay at Cuxhaven to be utilised in the offshore wind sector.
The work is being carried out at Berth 9.3 by a consortium of Bilfinger Marine & Offshore Systems and Kurt Fredrich Spezialtiefbau.
It will involve the construction of a quay with a 115-m platform for roll-on and roll-off logistics.
Earlier this month, Siemens started building its new €200m wind turbine manufacturing facility at Cuxhaven.
The production hall is scheduled to be complete in mid-2017, while a two-story office, canteen and technology building is also being constructed.
Production of the 7MW direct drive offshore wind turbines is set to start in summer 2017, coinciding with the start of manufacturing of the 75m rotor blades at Siemens new plant in Hull in the UK.
The two plants will be linked by two specialised transport vessels that will use roll-on and roll-off logistics.
