Dong Energy has agreed to sell 50% of its 258MW Burbo Bank 2 offshore wind farm in the UK to toy company Lego and pension outfit PKA.
Each of the new owners will hold 25% of the Round 2.5 project in the Irish Sea. Total value of the deal is £660m to be paid in 2016-17.
Offshore construction of Burbo 2 kicks off this year and is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2017.
Burbo will feature MHI Vestas V164-8MW turbines. Dong will provide O&M under a long-term agreement.
Dong Energy will be responsible for the sale and delivery to the market of the part of the production that is generated by PKA and Lego’s 50% ownership share.
Chief executive Henrik Poulsen said: “I am delighted to welcome the Lego Group and PKA to a new partnership with Dong Energy. Both are already trusted partners in other Dong Energy offshore wind projects and we are proud to be able to build on these existing, successful partnerships.
Lego said the deal is another substantial step towards balancing the company’s global energy consumption with renewable energy capacity. “Our goal is to fulfil this by 2020 and beyond as we want to make a positive impact on the planet our children will inherit,” it said.
