Fred Olsen Windcarrier has installed a ZephIR 300 lidar on its jack-up installation vessel Brave Tern to assist with the construction of the 30MW Block Island project in the US.
The lidar, which delivers real-time wind information, will help identify suitable weather windows to optimize crane operations and promote safe lifting.
The deployment shows Fred Olsen’s commitment to improve the efficiency and safety of complex offshore construction operations, ZephIR Lidar said.
Brave Tern is set to start its journey from St Nazaire in western France to the US east coast and Block Island site imminently.
Turbine installation on the US’ first offshore wind farm is scheduled to start in August, with commissioning expected in late 2016.
