Lincolnshire LEP lays groundwork for Humber wind hub

Lincolnshire LEP lays groundwork for Humber wind hub

Greater Lincolnshire LEP has awarded grant funding to a project that will help unlock land earmarked for development as part of Able UK’s proposed £450mln Able Marine Energy Park (AMEP).

The LEP this week agreed to finance a new pumping station and other drainage infrastructure that will prepare a site for the development of the 900-acre port site on the Humber.

The LEP said the land preparation work will “facilitate further development of the South Humber Bank” and create up to 1,500 new jobs.

The new infrastructure was one of seven projects to secure backing from the LEP’s £25.8 million Getting Building Fund, which is aimed at getting ‘shovel-ready’ projects like AMEP off the ground.

ABLE UK secured consent for its Able Marine Energy Park in 2013.

Plans for the site include 1,270 metres of deep-water, heavy duty quays and an 80-hectare marshalling area across four adjacent installation bases.

AMEP said there are 336 hectares of developable land adjacent to the quays suitable for the manufacture, assembly, and storage of components.

ABLE UK chief executive Peter Stephenson told reNEWS the AMEP development is “the focus of our [Able UK’s] efforts and our future investment strategy”.

“We now see an increasingly confident offshore wind sector embracing a range of unambiguous and supportive Government policies. It is clear the UK’s port infrastructure needs to be fully fit for the purpose of delivering the demanding targets linked to both power generation and local content.”
