The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy has opened a consultation on an environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme for the country’s first offshore wind farm development, which will feature turbines between 8MW and 16MW in size.
The EIA will analyse the potential direct and indirect effects of the planned 700MW wind farm on the environment and public health, examine alternatives and mitigation or compensation measures, the government said.
It added that taking into account the development trends of the most advanced technologies and assessing the economic efficiency aspect related to the implementation of advanced technologies, the planned offshore wind farm will have 8MW-16MW turbines with heights of 140 metres to 300 metres.
The EIA will include an assessment of several offshore wind power plant alternatives in the planned area for the construction, operation and dismantling of offshore wind farms of different heights and installed capacities.
Particular attention will be paid to bird monitoring, which must include two summer-winter seasons, the ministry said.
