Mammoet has signed an agreement with Seatrium to carry out the load-out of three substations for TenneT’s 2GW offshore grid connection programme.
The partners said the programme will install 15 HVDC grid connection systems in the North Sea by 2032, comprising eight in the Netherlands and seven in Germany, each with a capacity of 2GW.
They added that deploying higher-capacity systems at sea will help meet Dutch, German and wider European climate targets while reducing the number of offshore facilities required.
Seatrium will undertake topside fabrication across its key yards under its One Seatrium Global Delivery model, with each topside expected to weigh more than 30,000 tonnes.
Mammoet will execute the movement and load-out of the platforms using specialist skidding equipment to transfer each structure between land and sea-going vessels.
The company said hydraulically compensated skidding systems will ensure precise movement and minimise structural deflection during transfer.
Richard Verhoeff, global sales director at Mammoet, said: “We are proud to partner with Seatrium for this innovative offshore wind program, which will support Europe’s net-zero and energy independent ambitions.
“We look forward to using our innovative engineered solutions to load these colossal structures onto transport vessels in a safe and controlled manner”.
