Shell and Ocean Wind’s US JV Mayflower Wind intends to reskill some of the workers from the oil giant to develop the 1200MW offshore wind site.
Shell announced last month it was to accelerate its investments in low-carbon technologies.
At the same time, it announced up to 9000 job losses as part of a restructuring process to streamline its oil business.
It is now looking at reskilling some of these workers in the future to help construct the project off the coast of Massachusetts.
Speaking at the AWEA offshore wind power virtual summit, Mayflower Wind chief executive Michael Brown said: “We are saying that at Mayflower we are able to repurpose those skills at Shell and bring that talent over to Mayflower.
“Bringing in that new talent and the talent from the oil and gas industry will be something we will be looking for.”
