Danish developer Dong Energy has cut the ribbon at its new operations and maintenance base on the River Mersey.
Dong will use the £6m facility at Seacombe’s Kings Wharf to monitor and service its 90MW Burbo Bank 1 and 258MW Burbo Bank 2 wind farms in the Irish sea.
Some 45 full-time staff will be employed at the two-story centre, which includes a warehouse for storing materials and a landing berth for crew transfer vessels.
The developer was previously servicing each wind farm from separate facilities either side of the Mersey.
“To have both our wind farms operating from here makes complete sense in terms of efficiencies and the site has excellent access offshore,” said Lee Rollason, head of operations at Burbo 1 & 2.
The Danes splashed out £100,000 to spruce up the public walkway in front of their new hub as part of the development, installing paving and benches overlooking the Liverpool seafront.
