Turbine manufacturer MHI Vestas is to establish its US headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.
New hire Jason Folsom, who previously led US offshore operations for rival Siemens Gamesa, will be based from the office.
MHI Vestas said the announcement demonstrated its long-term commitment to Massachusetts.
MHI Vestas co-chief executive Lars Bondo Krogsgaard said: “We believe that the US offshore wind industry is starting a prosperous journey, and we are committed to working with our partners to contribute with our latest technology and experience to the transformation of the energy sector.
“Our office in Boston is our first step before establishing an actual supply chain.”
Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker said: “The Baker-Polito administration was proud to secure the largest single procurement of offshore wind by any state in the country, and MHI Vestas’ selection of Massachusetts for its North American headquarters is one of a series of initial steps that will support the Commonwealth remaining a national leader for this emerging industry.
“We look forward to helping lead this new frontier for American energy and establishing a hub for offshore wind development on the east coast through continued collaboration with MHI Vestas and the rest of the offshore wind industry.”
MHI Vestas is the preferred turbine supplier for the 800MW Vineyard Wind project off Massachusetts.
The project, being developed by joint venture between Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, is due online in 2021 featuring 84 V164-9.5MW hardware.
