MHI Vestas has launched an upgraded version of its 8MW V164 platform that enables the turbine to reach 9MW under specific site conditions.
The company added that the prototype at the Osterild test site in Denmark has also broken a 24-hour generation record for a commercially available offshore machine of 215,999.1 kilowatt hours.
The new 9MW V164 machine was first reported in today’s subscriber-only reNEWS.
“The increased energy production per wind turbine will add greater value for many projects and save on capital expenditure costs as fewer machines will be needed to meet the park capacity,” MHI Vestas said.
MHI Vestas chief technology officer Torben Hvid Larsen said: ” We are confident that the 9MW machine has now proven that it is ready for the market.”
