RWE Supply & Trading has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement to supply Ineos with electricity from the 219MW Northwester 2 offshore wind farm off the coast of Belgium.
The deal covers 198 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year and represents about 25% of the wind farm’s generation.
It means Ineos will reduce its carbon footprint in Belgium by 745,000 tonnes during the contract period.
RWE Supply & Trading has been marketing the project’s output since spring 2020.
RWE Supply & Trading chief commercial officer Andree Stracke said: “We are pleased to be able to support Ineos in further reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.
“With our global portfolio, we are one of the largest producers of electricity from renewable energies.
“We provide industrial customers and municipal utilities with tailor-made energy solutions and thus help you to achieve your climate protection goals.”
Ineos Trading chief executive David Thompson said: “The agreement with RWE represents another important step for us to further reduce ourCO2emissions from energy in Belgium.
“We are considering other options for using renewable energy. Agreements like this help us to adhere to our roadmap to reduce carbon-based energy at our sites.”
Northwester 2 comprises 23 9.5MW turbines and is operated by Parkwind.
