The Global Energy Wind Council has created a taskforce to accelerate offshore wind deployment in global markets beyond Europe, including North America and Asia-Pacific.
Alistair Dutton will chair the Offshore Wind Taskforce, which will comprise developers, investors and manufacturers in the sector, as well as technical experts and inter-governmental organisations.
Siemens Gamesa, Iberdrola, Orsted and MHI Vestas are some of the big players supporting the taskforce, GWEC said.
The taskforce will advise governments on regulatory frameworks and tendering systems, measure the economic and social benefits of offshore wind deployment and the creation of local supply chains, and foster technology innovation and the testing of new turbines, installation techniques and O&M strategies.
It will also look to spread best practices and enable knowledge transfer from Europe and other established markets.
Henrik Stiesdal will act as GWEC’s Global Offshore Wind Ambassador supporting the taskforce.
Stiesdal said: “The industry needs to find the most appropriate technologies for deploying offshore wind in different conditions – for example floating offshore wind in regions with deep water levels, and creating efficient supply chains across the globe.”
