Engie North America has started construction of the 276MW Solomon Forks wind farm in Kansas.
The $334m project, which is located in Thomas County near the city of Colby, will consists of 105 Siemens Gamesa 2.625MW turbines with 120-metre diameter rotors.
MA Mortenson Company is balance of plant contractor on the project and will install the hardware.
Solomon Forks is part of a portfolio of projects acquired by Engie from Infinity Renewables and Map Energy in February.
It is scheduled to come online in early summer 2019 and will sell electricity to T-Mobile US and Target Corp.
Engie North America head of US wind development Matt Riley said: “We are excited to break ground on a second major project after completing the sale of our development portfolio to Engie just this past February.
“Solomon Forks is a testament to the benefits of wind energy for customers and local communities, and we expect to have even more success expanding the use of wind energy in the US in the coming years.”
