Orsted has opened the offshore construction base for its 1400MW Hornsea 2 project off Yorkshire.
The base is located in a former police station at Humberside Airport and will house around 30 employees during the build-out of the 165-turbine project, which is due online in 2022.
“The new offshore construction management office is the ideal location for our logistical project planning, and means we can move people and equipment offshore efficiently and safely using the heliport at Humberside Airport,” said senior project manager for the wind farm Jason Ledden.
VolkerInfra has begun laying onshore cable for the project and work at the onshore substation is also underway, Orsted said.
Offshore construction at the project, which lies 89km from the UK coast, will begin in 2020.
