Orsted, along with French energy conglomerate Total and renewables player Elicio, has set up a consortium to bid for a wind project in the French Channel.
Prior to forming the consortium Belgian offshore wind developer Elicio underwent successful preselection for the French Round 3 offshore competition.
A total of nine consortia are participating in the tender for the Dunkirk project, which will have a maximum capacity of 600MW.
Total gas, renewables and power president Philippe Sauquet said: “Total’s participation in this offshore wind bid is in line with our strategy to develop low-carbon electricity business in Europe.
“Our recognised offshore oil and gas know-how combined with Orsted’s market-leading expertise across the offshore wind energy value chain, as well as that of Elicio, an experienced developer qualified from the beginning of the bid, provide a solid foundation for success of a safe and competitive project.”
Last month Eneco, Boralex, Van Oord and Diamond Generating Europe set up the Vents de Dunkerque consortium to bid for the project’s rights.
In November 2018 Shell, marine contractor DEME and French renewables specialist Quadran formed a consortium, called Moulins de Flandre, to bid for the project in the Channel.
Orsted chief executive Martin Neubert said: “The combined competencies of Orsted, Total and Elicio are ideal to help France unleash its significant potential for developing clean power from offshore wind.”
