Orsted has used systems developed by technology company Fico for the development of a digital optimisation platform for cable layouts at its wind farms.
The Danish company said Fico Xpress Optimization has been used for the design of the cable layout at projects to achieve cost reductions, reduce design time and improve analysis of ‘what if’ scenarios.
Using the optimisation system and working with Fico reseller Artelys, Orsted developed a tool called OptiArray to optimally design the cable layout connecting the turbines to offshore substations and then the shore.
Fico general manager in Europe, the Middle East and Africa Steve Hadaway said: “Orsted demonstrated innovative mathematical modelling to solve this challenge.
“Our Xpress solution is built for innovators like Orsted that need to crunch through millions of options to find the ideal solution in minutes.”
Orsted was awarded a 2018 FICO Decisions Award for AI, Machine Learning and Optimisation for its solution.
FICO Xpress Optimization has four core components – Xpress Insight, Xpress Executor, Xpress Solver and Xpress Workbench – that provide solvers and algorithms, flexible modelling, application development, comparative scenario analysis and reporting capabilities for on-premises and cloud installations.
