Petrofac has confirmed a deal to supply the Beta substation for TenneT’s Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) offshore grid transmission project.
The high voltage alternate current (HVAC) offshore grid connection platform, to be installed in the North Sea, will be operational in 2022.
A total of eight 700MW transformer substations will be installed off the Netherlands coast until 2030.
Petrofac is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of both the third (HKZ platform Alpha) and fourth (HKZ platform Beta) substations, which have a total contract value of approximately €173m.
Alpha will become operational in 2021.
In May 2019 Heerema Marine Contractors was awarded a contract by Petrofac for the transport and installation of Alpha, using a Sleipnir semi-submersible crane vessel to carry out the work.
Petrofrac won the Alpha contract in July 2018.
Petrofac chief operating officer, engineering and construction George Salibi said: “With the initial stages of the work for HKZ platform Alpha well underway, we are delighted to confirm the option for HKZ platform Beta.
“This important project integrates our engineering, project management and procurement capabilities and we look forward to the safe and efficient delivery of both platforms for TenneT.”
