Prysmian Group has commissioned the 900MW DolWin3 high voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore grid link in the German North Sea.
DolWin3 connects the offshore converter platform DolWin Gamma, located approximately 85km offshore, to the German mainland, transmitting electricity generated by offshore wind.
The cables for the project were produced at Prysmian’s factories at Arco Felice in Italy, Pikkala in Finland and Delft in the Netherlands.
Prysmian was awarded the contract in 2013 by Alstom Grid, now GE Grid, on behalf of the Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT.
It was responsible for the supply, installation and commissioning of the HVDC ± 320kV extruded submarine and land power cable, as well as the associated fibre optic system, covering a 78km land route and an 8km subsea route.
Prysmian Group executive vice president projects Hakan Ozmen said: “We are very proud of having contributed to the development of such an important renewable energy project proving our ability to provide tailor-made submarine cable solutions to support the growth of clean energy in Northern Europe.”
