RWE Offshore Wind Chief Executive Sven Utermöhlen has visited Chinese turbine manufacturer Mingyang to “explore how the OEM works and what they can offer”.
He said on social media today (2 July) the global lead built by China in offshore wind installed capacity using domestic suppliers had provided “a compelling reason” for the visit to Mingyang production facilities to “build relationships”.
Utermöhlen added: “We gained many insights at their factories, research centre and a floating prototype ready to go offshore next month.”
The timing of the German developer’s interest in Mingyang comes despite the EU’s launch in April of an investigation into Chinese wind turbines under a new Foreign Subsidies Regulation.
WindEurope has also championed the EU Green Deal and Industrial Deal to reduce reliance on Chinese imports to the bloc.
