RWE has opened a new offshore wind operations and maintenance hub at the Port of Grimsby.
The Grimsby Hub, unveiled on 9 July, will host RWE’s UK Centralised Control Room, which will provide 24/7 monitoring of its offshore wind fleet.
RWE offshore wind chief executive Sven Utermöhlen said: “As part of RWE’s ongoing expansion in renewable energy, the Grimsby Hub represents a significant leap forward in our offshore operations.”
He added: “It serves as a critical platform for collaboration with local businesses, supporting regional growth and advancing a net-zero future for the UK.”
The new site currently employs more than 90 full-time equivalents and is expected to grow to 140 staff by 2027, alongside 60 locally sourced roles and wider supply chain opportunities.
It will support operations for the Triton Knoll and Sofia offshore wind farms, with the latter located 195km off the UK’s north-east coast.
The facility was officially opened by Utermöhlen in a ceremony attended by local authorities, industry representatives and regional businesses.
RWE said the location was selected for its proximity to key wind projects and access to deep-water berths suitable for service operations vessels.
The company described the investment as part of its continued backing for the Grimsby region and the wider UK offshore wind sector.
