RWE Renewables in Japan and its local partner Kyuden Mirai Energy Company will carry out a feasibility study for an offshore wind project off the coast of Akita.
The companies will undertake the feasibility study for the project planned in an area off the coastal city of Yurihonjo, having signed a joint bidding agreement to prepare for a public tender for the site.
The tender will be issued by the Japanese Government under the Offshore Wind Promotion Law.
The joint bidding agreement follows on from RWE Renewables Japan and Kyuden Mirai signing a cooperation agreement on 23 April 2019 to jointly study opportunities for fixed-bottom offshore wind project developments in Japan.
Kyuden Mirai is a renewables business within Kyushu Electric Power Group developing projects based on sources including offshore wind, biomass and solar photovoltaics.
The company is also involved in an offshore wind project off the coast of Kitakyushu City, in Fukuoka, the first open bid since the enforcement of the revised Port Law.
RWE Renewables Japan is a local subsidiary of RWE Renewables, which took ownership of Eon’s renewables business in October 2019.
