Nordex has received a 27MW order from Innogy to supply turbines for a wind project in Germany’s North-Rhine Westphalia region.
The manufacturer will supply six N149/4.0-4.5 turbines, all with hub heights of 164 metres, for the Juchen A44n wind farm, located on a former open cast lignite mining site.
Construction began last month and the wind farm is slated to begin commercial operation in April 2021.
The project is being built next to the A44 motorway on around 90 hectares of re-cultivated land, south of the town of Juchen.
The wind farm will be operated by a partnership between Innogy and a subsidiary of municipal utility company NEW.
The partners secured the project in the German auction for onshore wind at the beginning of 2020 and were awarded the contract from the Federal Grid Agency with a feed-in tariff for the wind farm.
Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said: “The wind farm Juchen will supply clean electricity for around 26,000 households.
“The site on re-cultivated land formerly used for brown coal mining could not be more symbolic in terms of CO2-neutral energy production and the energy transition.
“We are delighted that Innogy and NEW Re will be using our turbine technology in this landmark project.”
In October 2018 Innogy and the Nordex agreed on a strategic partnership with a view to promoting future growth with onshore wind projects in a highly competitive environment in an optimal manner.
Juchen A44n is the first German project to be implemented as part of this partnership.
