RWE has received planning permission for the Nordseecluster B offshore wind project in the German North Sea.
The company said the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency has approved the second phase of the 1.6GW Nordseecluster.
It added that Nordseecluster B will contribute 900MW of capacity, with construction at sea set to begin next year and operations starting in early 2029.
Nordseecluster A, with 660MW, is already under construction and is scheduled for full commissioning by early 2027.
The project is located 46 kilometres north of Borkum and 50 kilometres north of Juist.
Together, the two phases are expected to generate around 6.5 terawatt hours of electricity annually.
Nordseecluster is a joint project between RWE, which holds 51%, and Norges Bank Investment Management, which holds 49%, with RWE responsible for construction and operation.
“Now that the BSH has granted approval for Nordseecluster B, we can begin construction at sea next year,” said Tobias Keitel, chief technology officer RWE Offshore Wind.
“Our portfolio already includes six offshore wind farms located off the German coasts.”
