Swedish company SeaTwirl has received approval from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) for a five-year concession to demonstrate its S2x floating vertical-axis offshore wind technology.
The 1MW S2x would be located 700 metres from the coast in water depths of 130 metres at Boknafjorden, northeast of Lauplandsholmen.
S2x is planned to be connected to an existing transformer station on land, with Haugaland Kraft buying the electricity produced.
SeaTwirl made the application with Marin Energi Testsenter.
SeaTwirl chief executive Peter Laurits said: “It feels very good to get this approval from NVE, as we have been waiting for the concession in Norway to continue our work with the S2x project.
“While waiting for an approved concession, we have made good use of our time.
“Our team has focused its work on improving the design to be as efficient and optimal as possible, as well as reviewing and minimising potential risks.”
