Swedish outfit SeaTwirl has joined the Ocean Energy Scale-Up Alliance with membership bringing a grant of almost €434,000 to the floating vertical turbine developer.
The alliance is coordinated by the Dutch Marine Energy Center and has been funded by the Interreg North Sea Region.
The three-year project aims to accelerate the deployment of large-scale ocean energy pilots in the North Sea.
SeaTwirl will use the money to help develop its turbine technology.
Other service providers for the project are the European Marine Energy Centre, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Aalborg University, Danish Wave Energy Centre, AKP, Uppsala University and SSPA Sweden.
Pilot projects come from Tocardo Tidal Power, Seabased , NEMOS, Floating Power Plant and SeaTwirl.
SeaTwirl chief executive Gabriel Strangberg said: “We are very happy to be part of this alliance and this project and of course also for the money from the grant.
“There is a lot of expertise and experience available around the North Sea region that we can now more easily tap into and gain support from on our way to building a cost-efficient wind turbine.”
