Seaway 7 has signed a contract to supply and install the array cables for Ocean Winds’ 882MW Moray West offshore wind farm off Scotland.
The contract includes the supply of array cables by JDR, which will connect the wind turbines back to the offshore substation platforms before exporting the power back to the onshore connection point at Blackhillock near Keith.
To ensure resilience in exporting the renewable energy, the contract also covers an interconnector cable that will be installed and buried in the seabed to connect the two substation platforms.
A total of approximately 125km of 66kV subsea cables will be supplied by JDR and installed by Seaway 7.
This significant contract for JDR, won against “stiff international competition”, supports the latest decision by the cable company to open a new factory in Cambois, near Blyth, Northumberland.
Following the announcement of the Letter of Award to Seaway 7 near the beginning of August 2022 progress has been to finalise the contract for signature.
Seaway 7 will manage the Moray West contract from its main UK office in Aberdeen.
Project Director for Moray West Adam Morrison said: “We are pleased to have concluded this contract with Seaway 7 which includes the selection of JDR as supplier of the inter-array cables for our project as we accelerate into construction.
“Having worked successfully with JDR on the Moray East and WindFloat Atlantic projects we are proud to once again be supporting a key UK supplier in our sector.
“We believe that our confidence in JDR has helped them progress to confirm their plans for the new export cable facility at Blyth.
“As we finalise our construction contracts I am proud that Moray West, as part of the Ocean Winds portfolio, is at the forefront of supporting the UK supply chain adapt to the huge potential of the offshore wind sector in the UK and internationally.
“As well as JDR, this includes bolstering the existing capabilities at Seaway 7’s Aberdeen centre of operations. We look forward to working with JDR and Seaway 7 on successful delivery of the cables.”
