Senvion has ordered Palfinger Marine’s new blade inspection and repair system for the 325MW Thornton Bank I, II and III wind farms in the southern North Sea in Belgium.
Palfinger said the order is the first for its Blade Access solution, which combines a PK40002 nacelle crane with a workman basket developed in cooperation with PP Techniq.
The basket has space for two technicians and their tools, while the lifting operation follows the contours of the blade allowing the service engineers to carry out inspections on their way down and perform repair work on the way up.
Palfinger added that the system, which has been certified by DNV GL, has been designed with glass-reinforced plastic.
Senvion head of maintenance Dirk Reinhold said: “By adapting the Palfinger Marine crane specifically for our turbines and using it for servicing, we can safely transport both colleagues and their work instruments quicker than before.”
