Shell and Eneco have confirmed participation in upcoming Dutch offshore wind tenders for Hollandse Kust West 6 and 7 lots.
The duo are participating through their joint ventures Ecowende and SchakelWind, for HKW 6 and 7 respectively.
Shell and Eneco aim for Ecowende to initiate a movement to realise offshore wind farms with a net positive impact on nature.
The aim is to build an offshore wind farm with a flourishing ecosystem, with as little impact as possible on birds and bats and on the underwater world.
Ecowende has developed an extensive programme for this with measures and innovative experiments, carried out with partners including experts, knowledge institutions and commercial partners from the Netherlands and abroad.
SchakelWind’s mission is to achieve a “new benchmark” in the integration of offshore wind farms: a net positive impact on the Dutch energy system.
In addition to the HKW 7 wind farm SchakelWind will make a large number of investments throughout the country, together with companies, to advance offshore wind electricity into the grid and energy systems.
Both wind farms will be located 53 km from the Dutch coast, near IJmuiden, and will be put into operation in 2026.
Marjan van Loon, CEO of Shell Netherlands, said: “In collaboration with Eneco, we are taking the next step to enable the large-scale roll-out of offshore wind.
“Through Hollandse Kust (west) we want to invest heavily in green electricity and hydrogen, in an innovative way and with an eye for nature conservation.
“In this way, we work responsibly, and together with our customers, on a broader and cleaner energy system in the Netherlands.”
Kees-Jan Rameau, chief strategic growth officer at Eneco, added: “With these joint ventures, together with Shell, we can further the energy transition in the Netherlands, both at sea and on land and in all sectors.
“We are solving a number of important issues and thereby making an important contribution to achieving the objectives of the Dutch Climate Agreement.”
