Siem Offshore Contractors installation support vessel Siem Moxie has started work at Statoil’s 30MW Hywind floating wind farm off Scotland.
The walk-to-work vessel arrived at the Buchan Deep site last week and is supporting ongoing commissioning work on the project’s five Siemens 6MW Turbines, which are mounted on soar-buoy floating foundations.
Siem managing director Regis Rougier said the Moxie’s arrival represented the first time a heave-compensated gangway had been used to access a dynamically moving floating foundation.
“The use of more capable and weather resistant walk-to-work vessels…will directly contribute to a reduction in LCOE long-term,” he added.
The Norwegian developer is currently working to hook each turbine up to the undersea cables which will export power to the grid.
The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned by October.
