Siemens has confirmed it will build the 28MW Nissum Bredning offshore wind demonstration project off the coast of Denmark.
The wind farm in Jutland will feature 7MW Siemens hardware, gravity base jacket foundations, a 66kV tranmission system and lightweight turbine towers, the German giant said.
Developers Nissum Bredning Vindmøllelaug and Jysk Energi have also confirmed a positive final investment decision on the project, Siemens said.
The 66kV system will result in lower costs for cabling and lower losses, while other innovations to be tested at the demo are also expected to help reduce costs, the company added.
Turbine installation is scheduled for summer 2017, with commissioning in the third quarter of next year.
The project will receive support of 70 ore per kilowatt-hour for the first 10 years of operation.
Siemens Wind Power and Renewables chief executive offshore Michael Hannibal said: “This gives us the opportunity to simultaneously test and promote our innovations to achieve further cost reductions in offshore wind.”
