Siemens has confirmed that it will supply turbines to the 309MW Rentel wind farm off the Belgian coast.
The recent approval of the project by European authorities has officially kicked off the company’s first offshore wind deal in Belgium, it said.
Siemens will install 42 D7 wind turbines at a site located about 40kms from the coast, in water depths of between 22 and 36 metres.
It will collaborate with the port of Ostende and local partners such as GeoSea, DEME and Rebo.
The wind farm is scheduled to start generating electricity from mid-2018.
Siemens will service and maintain the facility for 17 years.
“We are delighted that Rentel NV has chosen Siemens for our first offshore project in the Belgian North Sea,” Siemens Wind Power offshore chief executive Michael Hannibal said.
