Siemens has been granted DNV GL certification for its new 7MW offshore wind turbine.
This means Siemens can bring its latest design to the market ahead of schedule.
The final type certification gives the design full compliance with IEC-61400-22 standard for the SWT-7.0-154 turbine.
The new turbine delivers nearly 10% more energy production than its predecessor, the SWT-6.0-154, under offshore wind conditions.
It was vital that the certification was received on schedule as demand for turbines that produce more energy for a lower cost is increasing.
DNV GL global head Steffan Haupt said: “Conscious of the current state of the industry it was vital we deliver this project on schedule. We understand our customers’ time pressures and the demand to continuously bring the latest turbine innovations to the market.”
Siemens portfolio manager Vicente Garcia said: “At Siemens Wind Power we felt it was critical to rely on our long-lasting partnership with DNV GL as certification body in this upgrade of our D7 platform, as we were confident in their ability to help us reduce the final time to market.”
