Statoil has selected Spanish fabricator Navacel to build towers for the Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind demonstrator off Peterhead.
The Norwegian company awarded a contract for delivery of five 83-metre components, each with a diameter of 7.5 metres at the base and 4.2 metres at the top.
Each of the four-section tower will weigh 620 tonnes and will be topped with a Siemens 6MW nacelle. Delivery is scheduled for December.
Navacel’s full workscope also includes purchase of steel, manufacturing, surface treatments and installation of tower internals.
The Bilbao fabricator will also tackle procurement and installation of external platforms where two cranes will be installed.
