Spanish outfits Navantia and Windar have won a €120m contract from ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) to fabricate 34 jackets for the 714MW East Anglia 1 wind farm off the UK coast.
Navantia confirmed the contract on Tuesday. Assembly work for the three-legged jackets will take place at the fabricators Fene shipyard in the north west of Spain, starting in 2017 and running through summer 2018. Windar will manufacture pin piles in Aviles.
Two other contracts for the fabrication of 28 and 40 jackets are yet to be confirmed by SPR. UK contractors are expected to win some work on the components.
The deal comes on the back Navantia’s completion of 29 jackets, also alongside joint venture partner Windar, on SPR parent company Iberdorla’s 350MW Wikinger project off the Germany coast.
Siemens has been lined up to supply 102 7MW turbines to the Suffolk coast wind farm. First turbines are set to be installed in the summer of 2019.
