SSE Renewables has selected the port of Montrose on the east coast of Scotland to serve as the operations and maintenance base for its 1100MW Seagreen offshore wind farm.
The developer said the deal will ensure ongoing investment and re-development of the existing facilities in line with Montrose Port Authority’s remit as a trust port.
Project director John Hill said the onshore base will play an important role in the running of the project, once it is operational in 2024-25.
“Maintenance activities will be overseen from Montrose Port by our team to ensure the project is able to deliver clean, renewable energy reliably and safely on a day-to-day basis.”
Montrose Port Authority chief executive Tom Hutchison added: “We are absolutely delighted that SSE Renewables has chosen Montrose Port as its Operations and Maintenance base for this landmark project.
“Reflecting our consistently flexible approach and long-term diversification strategy, SSE Renewables’ decision also represents an outstanding opportunity for the local supply chain network and will result in the creation of a number of jobs in the area.”
SSE secured a Contract for Difference covering 454MW for the project last month and expects to build-out the full 1.1GW scheme.
Financial close is expected in early 2020. Onshore works will start next year with offshore construction in 2021.
