Statoil is seeking innovative proposals from companies to perform heavy maintenance on floating offshore wind turbines not dependent on the use of jack-up vessels or large floating crane vessels.
The Norwegian oil giant is looking for new ways to repair or replace large components, such as rotors, blades, hubs, pitch bearings, main bearings, generators, gearboxes and transformers.
Statoil said it has launched the call because jack-up vessels may not be able to carry out heavy maintenance at floating wind farms in the future.
“The reason for this is water depth limitations. It is also considered that using large floating crane vessels for heavy maintenance on floating wind turbines will neither be practical nor economically viable, due to long mobilisation time, large day rates and very short weather windows,” the company said.
Statoil said it aims to run a pilot project in 2020-2021.
Interested parties have until 23 April to submit a proposal, with up to three winners announced in May.
Each winner will receive a cash prize of Nkr100,000 (€11,000) and go into discussions with Statoil to develop the proposal further.
