The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has launched its second ever “Global Women in the Wind Energy Sector” survey and is calling for women in the field to complete the 20-minute poll.
The survey is open from now until mid-November and aims to find out what roles women are filling “across the full value chain” of the industry.
Data will be collected on how many of the roles filled by women are technical versus non-technical.
The survey will also analyse women’s access to gender inclusive policies and find out the level of gender bias women may experience at work in the wind energy sector.
Women in wind make up 32% of the workforce compared to 22% in the energy sector overall, according to last year’s survey findings.
“Still, within renewables, women’s participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) jobs is far lower than in administrative jobs,” the agency said.
“Renewables offer diverse opportunities along the value chain, requiring different skill sets. But these opportunities should be equally accessible, and the benefits equitably distributed,” said IRENA.
IRENA believes its annual survey will help policy makers and business leaders make “informed decisions about increasing diversity and inclusion in the wind sector”.
The results will be published in January 2020. The survey can be found here.
This year’s survey co-organisers are Women in Wind Global Leadership Program, Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition and Global Wind Energy Council.
